The Sentinel
This marmot was alert to our presence and warned his companions as Piper passed by. SwissPiper and I were commenting that there did not seem to be as many marmots about this year. Apparently one theory is that as it gets warmer and the tree line creeps higher, the roots compact the ground making it more difficult for the marmots to dig burrows; I have no idea if this is a plausible explanation. However, there were plenty of marmots around today, enjoying the cooler conditions.
