Ai Giannis

We visited the very picturesque church of Ai Giannis, better known as the Mamma Mia wedding church. The setting is beautiful surrounded by lush green pine slopes, turquoise sea and brilliant blue sky.

The climb up the stone steps and steep rock face gives great views. Apparently a villager dreamt of a light on top of this rock and eventually climbed up to find an icon there. He took this with him but every night it returned to the top of the rock. They then built a church on top of the rock. The church itself is very small and the inside part wasn't used in the film.

After this we spent the rest of the day lazing on a beach, bathing in the turquoise transparent sea and reading. It's got to be done.
