A Near Miss !

Cambridge punters had a narrow escape yesterday afternoon, as a historic 40 ft willow tree came crashing down into the river Cam by Trinity bridge. The enormous tree missed a punt full of tourists by a few metres and blocked the river. An onlooker said that he heard a loud crack as the tree fell into the river and everyone in the punt screamed. It must have been terrifying and so fortunate that nobody was hurt. I went to have a look this afternoon and watched the workmen clearing the river, but  there were still a lot of branches  under the water.  The extra was in the newspaper soon after it happened and was taken by photographer Geoff Robinson.
