Nuthatch
For many not an unusual or exciting bird. For me this little bird is always a little bit of a thrill. When I was a boy (Adam had left the garden of Eden but not long) there were no Nutchatches in the county. By the time the 1976 Atlas was published there were 2 or 3 records for the county but the majority of the records were west of a line from the Wash to the Mersey.
In the current Atlas the main breeding range is south of a line from the Forth to Ayr. A spectacular expansion in 60 or so years. As a result they always give me a little thrill when I see them and more so when they make their infrequent visits to the feeders.
