Cloves anyone?
Woke early again....this going to bed early thang seems to let you clock the zzzs up! Off today on our Spice Tour.
Met our guide in reception then headed off on a very comfortable bus to the spice farms. We began by stopping at the
'central market' to pick up our vegetables that they were going to cook us for lunch with the spices that we saw
along the way. The next stop was the first of three or four farms - all very interesting and very well explained by
our guide. We saw pepper corns, vanilla pods, turmeric, ginger, nutmeg, lemon grass, cardamon, cinamon....and cloves
(yuck!). At each spot the guide stopped and showed us how it grew and was harvested and then made us all taste. We
also were allowed to sample the array of tropical fruits growing too: jack fruit (yum!), star fruit,
pineapples...and many more. The end of the tour we were taken to a very rustic farm mud hut where they had made us
lunch. We all sat and ate together a lovely meal of rice, veg curry, spinach and chipatis. I have to be honest I did
disinfect my hands and give the plate/spoon a rub with my skirt but so far so good...
Left the farms to head to Stone Town in the pouring rain - by the time we hit the city the skies were blue and
Zanibar technicolour was ressumed...oh what a colourful place! Think I am going to miss this one!
