Surprise surprise
I'm feeling gleeful, for having managed an 'extra photo' and making a collage of today's foody find. (Inspired by a fellow blipper rcw).
We had to find out about catching the bus to Auckland - not until 23rd - with the starting point from Paeroa - blipped a few days ago showing an antique shop, they are all over the town. The girl in the library pointed us the wonderful building recently opened as the Information Hub. After a struggle to find the info - winter timetable moving to summer - the very helpful gentleman came up with a price and then suggested something else. The Airport Shuffle, a taxi service from our door to the domestic flight airport Auckland. He didn't know much about it but we can give it a try, it's slightly dearer but perhaps easier than two buses and a taxi to do the same job.
After more chit chat we asked about the best place for a flat white, with no hesitation he suggested The Refinery where they make the best Cornish pasties ever! Never in this world would we have come across this place, the information hub was doing a great job, the cafe was wonderful. Rustic, warm great food, the pasties were spot on, ohh the cinnamon brioche was heavenly and as for the plum and white chocolate brioche I have yet to find a word. And of course a Flat White.
The cafe itself has antiques for sale and with records playing, as in vinyl, including Band on the Run. I can't say I was a great fan but do remember jogging along in the caravette in the 70's with this tape on. The goodies for sale were not the only antiques in this place today.
A great feel good factor from an atmospheric cafe to great food and proper music. (Oh dear that does sound like some old antique talking).
