Evolutionary hope

Obviously not the best pic, taken at 30x zoom (720mm in old money), but it's a lammergeier!!!
(aka Bearded Vulture)
This amazing creature is Europe's largest raptor, and until recently it was oh so very rare, it currently sits on the WWF Red list.

Considered extinct in Europe by 1884, a reintroduction program in the 1980's & 90's saw 38 pairs introduced across all our continental mountain ranges, by 2000 the best estimate was 50 free flying birds.
TODAY AT THE COL DU BONHOMME I SAW 30+ BIRDS SOARING IN THE AIR.
(it's in capitals because it was sooooo amazing!)

Now I'm here a lot, I've been lucky enough to see this amazing creature before, but this just blew me away. It means so much. We (people) have made this happen. We've put the birds there, but far far more importantly we've educated people who were scared of, and persecuted, this fantastic creature, we've understood its place in the eco system, we've accepted its not a threat - we've even come to see it could be a blessing, a boon to tourism, another piece of a complex puzzle. We've evolved our thinking.

If we can do it for this magnificent creature, if we lift our eyes as its shadow floats across our path and see the wonder in it - then I think there's hope that we can change our thinking about anything. And that's a truly happy thought.
