WINCHESTER

In 1519 Winchester was chosen as the capital of the kingdom of Wessex; and in 827, Egbert the first king of all England was crowned here. It then remained the capital and the most important city in England until the eleventh century and the arrival of William the Conqueror. He had himself crowned in both London and Winchester, and declared both cities to be capitals. However, by the fourteenth century the city had lost its place as the second most important city and began to evolve into what it is today - a small, sleepy, provincial city.

Not bore you with the history of this delightful city but the blip consists of King Arther's round table, found in the original high court of our fair land ( very good guide if you visit, be prepared for a LOT of information), the Cathedral ( bit on the pricey side to go in considering most only ask for a voluntary contribution and Winchester Guildhall ( spent an evening once in its Gothic splender at someone's fiftieth birthday bash)
I forgot to take the cameras out with us today so it's the trusty old iPhone again, last day tomorrow and the drive back home, Yorkshire beckons and I hope to bring the good weather back with me.
