Heaven . . .

What a day! Bright sunshine, cloudless sky and calm blue sea. Mid morning I was pruning/hacking at the hedge in the front garden and there was a very loud grunting bubbling growling noise. Looking out I saw a pair of seals playing or fighting or mating or something equally energetic! Lots of splashing and noise and glimpses of big sleek black bodies. It was quite exciting, but difficult to get any decent photos of - well, for me it was! Opinions in the village were divided between whether it was a mating pair, or two bull seals having a bit of a barny!

This afternoon I was in the craft shop, which was incredibly busy. As well as a bus load of Danish folk, there was a small tour of Australians. They were overwhelmed by the beauty of Orkney, the crafts, the friendliness of everyone, but they couldn't believe it was one of the best days of the year. They were all chilly, kept asking me to feel their hands for proof of how cold they were, couldn't believe I was warm enough in just a T shirt (I had a skirt on too!) and complained about the biting wind which had such an edge to it! Oh dear - perhaps it's a good job they were heading south to Cambridge next!
