Verteuil-sur-Charente
Today we had a lazy morning walking local to the cottage. Then we went out for lunch at a near by village called Verteuil-sur-Charente. We had the plat du jour which was delicious - my favourite course was the dessert which consisted of an almond sponge with raspberries and the most delicate vanilla ice cream. Afterwards we wandered around the village seeing the very grand 11th century chateau and lanes of tiny stone built cottages with gardens stretching down to the river. Many of the gardens were filled with vegetables - tomatoes, French beans and pumpkins seemed popular. The weather has been a little better today so we have enjoyed some warm sunshine and did not get wet once!
