Marsden Cliffs
The little man was keen for his mum to explore the same caves we had the day before, while she was running along the tops in the Great North Run.
After some caving we walked along the beach to access some steps back up up.
This picture is taken almost directly below the point we noticed a young lady sat perilously close to the edge. After walking past we thought we couldn't walk on without checking she was ok.
I spoke to her for what seemed like an age. It was rather a one-way conversation. I'm no expert, but she seemed distressed enough for us to call the police. I was told it is a notorious jumping point.
Within 5 minutes 4 police cars had arrived and thankfully they took over. We stayed for a while in case (in case of what I don't really know), but we decided that with a 3 year old in tow we should move on.
We later learned that she was brought back to safety.
I've thought about this a lot, not knowing if I'd done the right thing, or how I could have been more helpful. What is the right thing to do? The stakes seemed impossibly high to be able to think clearly. The experience has been affecting. Selfishly, I am grateful to her for saving my own anguish, of course she'll not know that.
