Ivor Novello Statue, Mermaid Quay, Cardiff.

Born in Cardiff in January 1893 and christened David Ivor Davies.  He was a Welsh playwright, composer and actor. His career began after his mother encouraged him to sing in a local Welsh Eisteddfod. His mother was a voice teacher for many of the best singers of the day in London. He rubbed shoulders with these people and got the bug. The rest as they say, is history! He died in March 1951 aged 58.
