The Edge of the Wold

Golden pond

The 0758 out of Arnside was crossing the low-lying land far below the top of Arnside Knott, while the sun was reflecting off Arnside Tower Farm's duck pond.  Strangely the mist was not burning off with the rising sun, but apparently coalescing into low cloud.

I thought I might have been blipping a steam train crossing the viaduct this afternoon.  Gus and I were in position well before 5 pm, but an hour and a half later it still hadn't shown. Poor Gus's patience had been tested to the extreme.  The tip-off had come by email from my old friend (or is that ex-friend!) Dr T.  Eventually we abandoned and went for Gus's usual evening walk along the estuary.  Just after 7pm a diesel towing nine chocolate and cream liveried carriages crossed the viaduct.   The steam engine must have broken down at some point and been replaced.  So Dr T is forgiven.
