Midpoint Cafe

Another day of sunshine and showers...or perhaps I should say watery sun and torrential downpours?  I know it’s silly, but I never expected Texas to be wet and muddy...

First stop of the day, just a handful of miles from our hotel, was the famous Cadillac Ranch.  Now, this was REALLY muddy and the up-ended cars looked like they were floating in the surrounding water.

Glen Rio, the ghost town, was a stark reminder of fading fortunes after the arrival of the nearby interstate I-40.

Amazingly, we crossed the mid-point of the trip today at Adrian in Texas.  How had we come so far in such a short space of time?  Needless to say, it was another wet one and we sheltered in the Midpoint cafe, enjoying their amazing cakes & bakes and coffee.  In there, we met a group of lads from Iraq, who were riding the length of Route 66 but appeared to be struggling with the weather.  I don’t mean this tale of the wet weather to sound as if I’m grumbling...far from it...I just kind of expected it to be hot and sunny (silly me!).  However, the strange thing was that even when we were wet we didn’t feel cold like you would here in the UK.  And as I said at the time...we’ll look back on this and laugh about it!

Our evening destination was Santa Fe, New Mexico and as we headed further west the weather improved.  Santa Fe is the most stunning town, full of adobe buildings.  See:
