Here & There

Blood Red

I was out earlier this evening at one of the "Auckland Conversations" presentations in town. Tonight's talk was in conjunction with the NZ Institute of Architects as part of Auckland Architecture Week, and discussed the re-development of Aotea Square .....to be "the region's premier civic, cultural and entertainment hub". Interesting, ambitious proposals and a huge project, integrating with future underground rail and surface transport.

Even more interesting was the presentation about the new Concert Hall for the Symphonie de Paris. A New Zealand consultancy practice specialising in acoustics won the design competition as part of a team with one of France's top architectural firms and the resulting public building is simply amazing. The acoustics are superb apparently, the Architecture stunning, and from my perspective the Engineering of the structure is quite mind boggling. I will have to visit one day? (Not sure quite what a building like that in Paris had to do with Auckland, but it was fascinating).

So with a head full of Architectural thoughts, I had to stop on my walk back home and take a shot of the Auckland Art Gallery - some nice lighting at night, and some beautiful timber work in the cantilever canopies to be seen during the daylight.
