Glacial Retreat/A Trip down Memory Lane

Above the Arolla Valley, the white flattish peak in the background is the Pigne d'Arrola, the first Alpine mountain I ever climbed. I know the glaciers were much more robust in 1970 but you can see the extent of the retreat over the last couple of centuries by the scoured lateral moraines here. Scary! I just walked up to the Plans Bertol today (where I had a little snooze in the sunshine) but it was so wonderful to be in the high Alps again. You can see some of the other mountains above this valley if you like, especially Mont Collon which dominated my walk today. https://www.flickr.com/photos/hilarysview/? The extra is the Dent Blanche which I shall have to climb in my next life!
