Thixendale round.
We set off this morning in thick fog and a temperature of only 7C.
However as we approached Thixendale, east of York, ( see map) the sun had broken through, although it was a little hazy.
What a charming village, tucked away at a point where six major dales meet.
Our walk took us through an intriguing landscape of dry chalkland valleys, and across green meadowlands linked by quiet country lanes.
This is "Hockney" country. We could see where his inspiration came from. This is a beautiful and varied landscape. Lovely at this time of year.
So, so peaceful.
As well as the landscape, my collage shows the sheaf of corn, and poppies which were in the little Norman church in Kirby Underdale.
( A village owned by Lord Halifax, who lives at Garrowby Hall. The Queen stayed with him when she visited York races a few years ago.)
Also a photo of a very docile highland cow, just having a look at us as we walked by.
We rounded off the day with a visit to the Robert Fuller Gallery. Where wildlife is brought alive through art.
Some beautiful paintings. ( I bought a birthday card!)
I have put a photo up of the gallery as an extra.
Now back home after a wonderful day. Only 10 of us out walking today. Some of the others thought it was too far to travel.
But for us, we thought it was worth driving every mile.
( the walk was 8.5 miles) They really missed a treat.
Off to make tea, and then watch Downton.
Hope you have all had a good weekend too.
