Waved albatross

They told us last night that it would be rough and they did not exaggerate! I was still awake at 2am with the movement - rolling from side to side and bucking up and down, then big jerks and judderings. I tried to get to sleep but I couldn't what with the movement, the engine noise and doors banging, not to mention every now and then, what sounded like somebody's suitcase in the cabin above throwing itself across the floor and then a chair falling over and being tossed about. Lying on my side my body would bounce up and down off the bunk. Thankfully the tablets worked, just! Shortly after that we must have reached the next island, Espanola, as it is quite a gentle rocking now.

We had a walk of a couple of miles over boulders and rocks, where we had to brave a seal ion with a pup on our way ashore.

Then it was off to see some red iguanas, then some waved albatross and Nazca boobies. We also saw a very elegant bird called a red-beaked tropic bird - a two forked tail, very long. We came back by cliffs with a blow-hole - as the waves crashed to shore, a huge plume of water was forced through fissures in the rock. Fun to watch.

In the afternoon we went ashore for a very wet landing on a beautiful white beach. Unfortunately it was too choppy to snorkel, and there was a bit of an undertow so no good for swimming either. However we did see some turtles swimming close to the shore which was nice.
