Olympics postponed

No not those Olympics, but Emma's School Olympic Sports Day. Hundred of parents lined up outside chatting, while the lower school (Reception to Year 2) made their way out onto the school's field. All the games are highly organised (hopefully like the real thing will be) and all the parents knew which game their child would be starting on and the idea is they follow the child from game to game. All this is very nicely controlled by 'she who must be obeyed' :) who rings the bell when the game is over and it's time to rotate.

Well we got to game number one. We sat down on the neatly arranged seating, we waved at Emma. The bell rang to command all the games around the field to start simultaneously. Emma did her thing of jumping through the Olympic rings, running along the length of a school bench and finally throwing a beanbag into a bin before returning to the other end. The bell rang to tell the children to change for the second heat of the game.

Then the clouds opened about as heavily they could do without it actually being a thunderstorm. The bell rang again, but nobody could hear it. This time the bell was saying run for the trees. It needn't have bothered, we already had.

It was inevitable that an hour after, the rain had stopped and there was lovely sunshine. We will all return to the school field next week, raincoats and umbrellas to hand, but hoping for once in this inglorious summer, that even if the clouds cannot stay away, they can at least keep the rain to themselves.
