Gunfleet dwarfed by cloud
Not a likely headline really. But the cloud is quite big and the Gunfleet Sands wind turbines are also pretty huge.
The forty-eight turbines, 7 km off the Essex coast each generate 3.6MW which should power up to 120,000 homes. Or about 56 homes if they use as much power as ours seems to! Each of the turbines has three 60 metre long blades. So what you see is a structure that must be at least 150m above the sea, plus however deep the sea is and a bit more.
Soon, it is expected they will fill the sea beyond this installation with the London Array which will consist of 175 turbines, spread over 90 square miles.
