50th Annual Buffalo Roundup
Custer State Park S.D.
Home of the largest free-ranging bison herd in North America.

BACKGROUND
Although they have freedom, their numbers can’t exceed the land’s resources.
So each year, an old fashioned round-up, moves the herd into corrals.
To inoculate, brand, and cull a third of the animals to sell at auction.

ROUNDUP
A warm day. The Buffs moseyed toward the corrals.
But then a feisty Matriarch broke away, leading 400 back to where they started.
That’s when things got interesting.
ATV’s and trucks accelerated over the rocky terrain.
Cowboys gave chase, riding at full gallop. Cracking whips that sounded like an old cap pistol I owned as a kid.  The crowds cheered their support for the wayward Buffalo.
Great fun and a must see event
