Rescue and Return
My aunt, Bill and I went on a day trip to Astoria, OR and then down to Cannon Beach. Our first stop was Astoria and we wandered around where the old Riverfront docks are. They have a cute trolley there now to transport people from one end to the other. Cruise ships are also docking in Astoria and the trolley can help get people up to the Maritime Museum, if they don't want to hike that far. Joan rested in the car, enjoying the sun, and Bill and I went for a little walk. We saw two men with large cages head down to the water's edge and we realized that something was being returned to the sea. The men said that they'd rescued these murre's who had been starving. A quick Internet search told the story that this has been happening all up and down the West Coast. You can see this article about that in California. As the little birds were let loose, (there were more birds than what you see here) they gathered and talked over the situation before rushing out into the river. By then, many people had stopped to watch and as these little birds, now healthy and raring to go, began to swim away, I thought this deserved a round of applause and quickly, all joined in as we applauded the work of these rescue organizations and to cheer on these little sea birds. Visit my Flickr page for a few more photos of our day trip.
It was a nice day. A bit of fog in Cannon Beach, where we had a wonderful late lunch/early dinner at Mo's, a popular seafood restaurant. And I have no explanation as to why there were so many bunny rabbits on the grounds by the restaurant and motel. See Extra photo.
