Come on in the Water's Lovely !
Jesus Green swimming pool, in Cambridge, is one of the few remaining examples of the lidos that were built in the 1920's and 1930's. Built in 1923, at 100 yards in length, it is one of the longest outdoor pools in Europe. It opens for public bathing between May and September. Today there were just a couple of serious swimmers, obviously in training. The water, which is not heated, was 68 degrees Fahrenheit ! I have spent many happy hours there in the past, but nowadays go to the modern indoor pools. I WILL go and swim there again when the weather is blazing hot. To be allowed in there with my camera, I had to answer questions and fill in a form for health and safety. I thought the only way I might drown would be in the rain today.
