The one downside of camping is that you are up and out of bed even before the sunrise. It did mean I got to explore the island while there was nobody around and it was on fire with golden light. Abandoned old industrial sheds with huge, hulking machinery still in place. Rusted old cranes still standing over the waterfront. Convict housing made of sandstone bricks. The cafe even makes great coffee. What's not to love about Cockatoo Island?
