Party afternoon
Liam, Pam's rather naughty little boy turned three earlier this week and today was his birthday party. Pam lives on the dairy farm 15k away with her parents and also her grandmother, we get our water from the farm so are there quite frequently. Her grandmother - known to ALL as granny (or Mrs Kirby) is quite a character and built the place up from scratch with her now gone husband Ted.
Unlike children's parties in the UK, there weren't party games, nor party bags, but a mix of all ages, lots of lovely chat and an afternoon of much fun. Kids running around, playing in the swimming pool and generally causing havoc. The 'olds' discussed tried and tested favourite topics whilst us 'young ones' ran around after babies or children dependent upon what age offspring you had.
Also different to the UK, everyone brings something to the party - normally their speciality dish. I already know that Brenda's 'dish' is her (very) sweet onions and that Val does a mean cheese cake.
It was a lovely afternoon, especially as names and faces are starting to fall into place. I now know who the mystery donor of two boxes of baby clothes was - apparently we have another one coming as she conveniently has a baby boy four months older than Alex, she also does baby swimming with us. I now feel really rather rude for not having thanked her properly before.
