Free wheeling
Transport is a bit of a nightmare sometimes here, there are three vehicles, one rough (the hilux, about 20 years old and great fun, but no air-con), Suzy, the run-around with about 500k on the clock, battered and then Abi, the 'long distance' vehicle meant for best - but with working air-con. We often get to use Abi as the boy needs air-con - in my view.
Three of us were in town today, Dirk for 8am, me for 12.20 and Gill for 9am, so it was a complex arrangement as Suzy was off the road as off yesterday and I had to take the hilux in and bring Abi back. Clearly, this meant motherly worries about the heat and it would seem the more I worry, the better the boy is, he slept the entire way into town as happy as larry. And, I got to drive to and from town all by myself...! This is a big deal, negotiating the police road blocks and not getting lost. It was one of those lovely steps towards independence, even if it wasn't in our own car. I got all the little niggles in the road right - when to use the other side for difficult dips and darling, if you read this, I even remembered the bit where you have to get off the road near town as the road disintegrates into potholes and sand.
This is the road home, much of it is like this, single track and potholed - this is a particularly good stretch! The road just stretches out before you and you can see for miles. Time it right and you're chasing the sunset home which is just absolutely beautiful. Given that for years I never saw sun set living in London, it's always a complete treat.
