Rainy Night In Kotor
The forecast was an overcast morning followed by rain in the afternoon - and that's exactly what we got. It's a cheap holiday (£300 each including flights, accommodation and car hire) so what did we expect? The ever optomist, Mrs BB, insisted on taking her costume and beach towel 'in case the weather changed'. It didn't and I didn't!
We drove around the locality, spending two hours walking around Budva, a 2500 year old walled town. In 1979 it suffered an earthquake and was substantially rebuilt. Instead of ageing the mortar, to give it authenticity, it looks a bit reconstructed and has, in my opinion, lost it's charm. In contrast, Kotor Old Town just ouses atmosphere.
I drove into Kotor this evening rather than risk a soaking or being hit by a car on the dark road around the lake as there's no pavement. After a pizza and a small beer we made our way to our favourite bar in the backstreets of the old walled town.
I enjoyed a couple of beers. The drink drive limit is 0 here. Not to worry, the local policeman was sat at the smoke filled bar, gun on his hip, having a beer with about a dozen men. He eyed me and I nodded.
We sat outside under the blind and watched people walking past in the rain. Nothing better on a Thursday evening to do in rainy Kotor. I like the one of the four women each under an umbrella. Sort of sums up the day.
An hour later the Officer was still sat at the bar as we left. His Peugeot 206 was outside the main gate. No problems driving back to the apartment. All I had to do was avoid an accident!
