Electric and Us

Went on the train to New Street - first time I've seen the revamp - definitely impressive, but didn't see it all because - to my delight - saw a Foyles Bookshop and got rather distracted... only bought two books: A Philosophy of Walking by Frédérick Gros and Midland by Honor Gavin, "an ingenious narrative of one Midlands family that is also a startling, anarchic history of a city". Can't wait to read them...

M met me to see "Suffragette" at the Electric (oldest working cinema in the UK) - loved seeing a bloke in front of us with a bubbly cooling in a bucket on the stage, which he poured into glasses and presented to the women with him; also a family in front of us with three young daughters. Such an important film - incredible that women only got the vote here in 1928 (propertied over 30's had it in 1918). A story that we all need to hear...

(The part we're standing in will eventually be the taxi rank, apparently.)
