Australian Sheep Farm
Today I went to an Australian Sheep Farm. We started our day out with a traditional farming breakfast. We had some type of crumble bread with honey drizzled over it and tea to drink. Then we learned how important working dogs are to the efficiency and the profits of the sheep farm. Next, we saw how the dogs herded all the sheep (this part was actually kind of sad to me). They would squeeze all the sheep into a little part of the pen and the sheep were literally on top of each other. But then they separated them into bigger pens and we got to feed them! I touched their wool and they felt just like what a wool coat would feel like. I thought that they had to be treated to feel like that, but apparently not. Next, we saw them sheer the sheep and it's so weird how they do it. They basically contort the sheep in many different ways. It looked liked it hurt the sheep, but I'll trust them that they know what they were doing and that it didn't hurt the sheep. After that we had an amazing lunch! They taught us some fun Australian dances (that I'm sure are for kids, but hey! We had fun!). Then we ended lunch by all singing Miss American Pie. It was truly great. And to end our day, we all learned how to crack a whip. Now, this is a LOT harder than it looks. You have to do it a certain way, but I got it! I was so proud of myself! But, all in all I learned so much and had so much fun! It was truly a great day!
