Hydrangea macrophylla
A common cultivated shrub but no less attractive for that. Almost the last open flowers on this particular shrub. The circle of white petals I believe serves as a beacon to guide bees and insects to the central area
Thanks to those who helped me find the name of the blue flower which I blipped two days ago. As most of you now know it was Petrocosmea iodioides. It comes from China and grows in woods and on cliffs in hilly areas.
The extra yesterday did not register so I think it is not breaking too many rules to try again. I believe it to be a fly called Helophilus trivitatus. Likes umbellifers and is widespread in Britain from May to October.
