Rubbish!
Warning - rant ahead!
Northumberland County Council's new policy regarding the disposal of DIY waste is absolute rubbish!
This huge pile of rubbish (not the stepladder) is in our courtyard waiting for us to take it to the local tip (or Household Waste Recovery Centre to give it its full name). When we get there, we'll be charged per bag of rubble, plasterboard and tiles before we can put it into the appropriate skip. In its leaflet, the Council very 'helpfully' states that "You will need to find other outlets for your waste if you ... choose not to pay the charges".
We'll take ours to the tip and - reluctantly - pay up, but I suspect that lots of people won't! They'll simply take it into the countryside and dump it when they think no-one is looking. So the Council will make money from the tip, and probably pay out even more to clean up illegal fly-tipping! Grrrr!
OK, rant over. Day 6 of the great upheaval - the bathroom is now an empty shell except for the loo, which is now rather wobbly. We have use of it until tomorrow morning when it will be ripped out. Hopefully the portaloo will arrive tomorrow - we may need it...
