G.A.S. Attack. Leica/Lumix Macro-Elmarit 45mm
There was a G.A.S. attack and a "new" lens arrived today... For the uninitiated, the acronym stands for "Gear Acquisition Syndrome". I have been eyeing the used sites for a reasonably-priced example of this wonderful macro lens for nearly a year, and finally landed one. The Macro-Elmarit is a joint venture between Leica and Panasonic: Leica lens design, Panasonic manufacture in Japan with the Leica guys looking over their shoulders, and a bump in the price tag for getting to use the Leica name. I chose as a first macro subject the M-E's ancestor, the 90mm Elmarit which was made by Leitz from 1959 until 1974, proof positive that the design was a success. So far I'm impressed with the feel, the ease of use both with manual and auto-focus and the quality of the image. Out to the garden tomorrow to find some critters...
