Betula papyrifera. Voigtlander Color-Heliar 75mm.
This is a little segment on the trunk of our garden Paper Birch. Wiki tells me that although the tree is native to the northern parts of North America, it doesn't do well with heat and humidity which can severely shorten its life - hope that isn't true also for some Spes Bonian immigrants to this part of the world. But the bark is very resistant to moisture and even when the tree itself is completely rotted, the bark remains intact. If you happen to be a moose, that bark is a winter staple, and if you're in the birch bark canoe-building business, this is your bark of choice.
