Black Honey Bee Scare!

So many small bees had rushed out to enjoy the one moment of sunshine today and I did too, hoping to get good shiny raindrops on the wildrose which is in full glorious scent at the moment. Suddenly I heard this deep, loud buzzing and "Xylocopa californicus" dropped onto the rose I was pointing my camera at. Wow, I had never consciously seen one of these before, they are about twice the size of our other bees! I did not drop my camera, just nearly did. Hope you have rays of sunshine today.
