Aimee's birthday
I got up at 8.30am to meet Ben and Julia for a goodbye egg coffee at Cafe Giang. Well, they had the egg coffee and I (perhaps stupidly) went for the intriguing option of egg beer (see extra photo) which was actually better than it sounds but too sweet for that early in the morning.
I got picked up by Aimee's housemate, Cam. He drove me to meet Aimee to start her birthday celebrations at We Escape, an escape/puzzle room company. I'd done one escape room before in Budapest and absolutely loved it. Cam had done most of the rooms before so it only left the very hardest puzzle they do, called The Evil Within. Apparently only 1 or 2% of teams have completed it and it took three months for the first time to do it (after multiple attempts). Given that there were only three of us (and Cam was extremely hungover), we did really well and got to the final puzzle before we ran out of time. We're planning on going back though!
Cam took us for lunch at a traditional Vietnamese restaurant called 1946 where we had a selection of dishes. Then Aimee and I went to a resort by West Lake to use their outdoor swimming pool with a beautiful view across the lake. It was so peaceful being away from the city.
A few of Aimee's friends met us for dinner on a static boat on the lake. We had lots of Bia Hơi and too much food. Everyone else went home but we went back to the Old Quarter to meet some other friends for beers, birthday shots and a very late night!
