Hankerchief Leaves

A blustery wind last night reminded me that the colourful leaves currently on the trees will shortly be lying on the ground.  So I decided to get a shot or two before that happens.

My favourite at the moment are the leaves of our handkerchief tree, Davidia involucrata.  It is headed more to bronze than red and the veins are standing out.

It is called the handkerchief tree because, in blossom, it looks like someone is hanging hanging cloths on its branches.  But I may have to wait a decade or two before that happens.
