Porthkerry Viaduct

I know I have blipped this structure before, but it has been a lovely day here and as we were passing, we decided to go for a walk down to the beach. As we were walking back to the car park, we saw the Bridgend to Cardiff train crossing the viaduct so I blipped it.  The 16 arch, 110 foot tall viaduct is a grade II listed building and was constructed in 1896 , opening in December 1897 but within a few days, one of the piers had collapsed. The cause of the collapse was blamed on insufficient foundations, poor cement and poor workmanship. The pier which collapsed is the one directly under the right hand front of the train!
