St Andrews

We were woken early by the upstairs neighbours  So much noise for holiday makers.  However it was a lovely sunny morning, so not all bad.  We were down at the beach by the harbour early and as the tide was out we explored the rocks looking for fossils, but the rocks were so slippy we eventually abandoned that plan for football on the beach.  We wandered round town via another playpark, the football pitch and the church ending up at the bakers.  BB wanted pancakes, which he scoffed and rated very highly!

Late morning we drove to St Andrews and as we ended up parking at the West Sands we had a lovely walk back to town along the beach.  First stop was the cathedral and we only just managed to get a token to go up St Rules Tower before the steward went for lunch.  The views were amazing. Next stop was the Castle.  More exploring – especially down the mine and countermine.  BB was very taken by the fact that someone had dropped an iPhone into the bottle dungeon.

Next it was lunch – pizza.  We were very lucky to get any lunch as there was a power cut, just after we were served! We had a very quick look round the shops.  BB got the next Harry Potter book – number 5.  It is enormous, so should take him a long time to get through it.  He is not daunted by it at all – it’s a challenge!  We walked back along the beach to find the car and had a lovely drive home.  BB watched Ponyo, and when he was in bed I watched Sunshine on Leith – which I didn’t really enjoy.

Here’s a view across St Andrews from St Rule’s Tower.
