Burning fields

Burning fields is not what today's picture was supposed to be, today we were supposed to receive the first of our cattle. But we live in Zimbabwe, time is flexible and time pressure is an alien concept. At 3pm, the call came that the cattle weren't being walked the 30km trip to us, they're now due on Monday. So we shall see, the good news is that since the the price was agreed, the price of cattle has gone up, so we're already up on the cattle we don't have.

Today was also a day when one of the paddocks was burnt, this renews the veld, burning off the moribund grass, knocks back the small trees and develops open grassland - better for grazing. The staff had a meal of sadza cooked up for them as it was - I'm told - very hard work. Judging by the exhausted husband I got back this evening, they deserved their meal.
