What a difference a year makes
This time last year, we made our vows in the beautiful Church on Red Lion Square in Stamford. The Church was radiant with autumnal colours and the bit I'd been dreading - walking into that Church in front of so many people, was probably the best moment of my life. The smiles greeting Dad and I as we walked in were spectacular and the service so touching. I had never understood just how 'the best day of your life' really was THE best day of your life until that day. My regret - not to have relaxed more in the run up to it and revelled in the family and friends around me, maybe more of a regret once you are geographically apart from them.
To celebrate our first anniversary, we went out to lunch, which had kindly been arranged by a friend, to a lodge that 'does't 'do lunch' - they only take over night guests, so we were very lucky indeed. We were even more lucky that there were no other guests, so we had the place to ourselves and spent the afternoon watching the (animal) world go by and having a swim. Or I had a swim, being a Brit, the water was lovely, being a Zimbo, to Dirk, the water was freezing.
Celebrating in real style, we drove home eating a bag of mediocre chips and had bangers and mash for dinner, not quite the anniversary meal you dream of, but given the first meal of our honeymoon was a very ropey Burger King on the A1, we're following tradition.
