Day 12: A change

This morning we went to the Genocide Memorial Museum in Kigali. I would encourage anyone visiting Rwanda to go to this, or one of the other similar sites elsewhere in Rwanda. Preferably do this before doing anything else in Rwanda - it will help put the country into context. We were all very quiet and thoughtful afterwards.
After the arid dryness of Kenya and Tanzania, the thing that struck us is just how green Rwanda is. It is a mountainous country - but also heavily populated with a subsistence economy. Consequently, people are farming on steep slopes right the way up the sides of the mountains.
The picture shows the twin lakes of Bulera (on the left) and Ruhondo. One is higher than the other. Beautiful scenery.
