Der Goethestein
This is a memorial to the German polymath Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Most people know him as the author of Faust, but he was much, much more than that. He was a scientist, he was a Statesman, he was, I'm sure, a fascinating bloke. More info here.
So I felt well enough to venture out for a bit of a walk. I had hoped that the trees around here might be doing that autumnal colours thing and I had hoped to get a Blip of that. But the sun never really broke through, and we were left with a grey almost fog. Still it was 14°C and I didn't need my jacket (locals, naturally, had winter jackets and scarves and hats and gloves).
As we walked through the vineyards we were surpprised to see lots of vines where the grapes hadn't been harvested and they were just left on the vine. We tried a few and they were incredibly sweet. You couldn't pick them as they were so ripe they just burst.
We also collected walnuts, edible chestnuts & wild pears. Why not? No sense in wasting food.
I'll head out again tomorrow in the hope that we'll get some sun.
