Sunny wood
First thing this morning I thought today's caption would be "wet wood" but, as usual, it was drier in East Lothian than Midlothian. Today was the orienteering event at Binning Wood that I'd planned. Despite the morning's rain, the afternoon was sunny, we had a good turnout and folk seemed to enjoy it, despite me putting a control 50m from where it should have been. When having my lunch I watched a few people coming through a control on one of the easier courses [extra].
One of the good things about orienteering is that it enables quite young children [under 10] to go out on their own in an unfamiliar place. I smiled when I passed a family who were just walking in the area and overheard the mother explain to her children that "that girl's allowed to go into the woods on her own because she's orienteering".
The best of the light was late on when the sun was getting under the trees.
