Waiting for the light

Woke to a more typical Lakeland morning, lowering cloud and driving rain which we observed from the breakfast room.

We hadn't planned to go up on the hills today but rather visit Ambleside and mooch around the shops. We spent time in various outdoor shops deciding whether to buy a "technical" mid layer garment but as they all come in at well over £100 we quietly withdrew and went for a scone and coffee at Daisy's.

We looked in gift shops and paid a call to the Ambleside and District Art Club's exhibition in the church. Meanwhile by then the rain had become less dense and there were glimpses of sunshine.

After returning from Ambleside we took in a short walk along the south western shores of Derwentwater, amongst some lovely autumn colours which would have been spectacular in sunshine rather than the sharp showers we were experiencing.

Mind you, the evening meal was worth it. Roast leg of Cumbrian lamb with all the trimmings. Magnificent.
