Autumn in Scotland
Well, we got an extra hour's lie-in this morning thanks to the clocks going back.
It reminded me though of a practice my father had in Wales. He kept all his clocks on summertime. This was disconcerting for visitors though he seemed perfectly happy with it. He only adopted this habit after the death of my mother, who would have vehemently opposed such eccentricity.
In search of autumn colours I went up Dumyat, our local mountain, and was alarmed to see how this beauty spot has been devastated by giant pylons. A big surprise was the size of the infra-structure surrounding each pylon and the permanent new access road running alongside cutting a swathe through the heather.
A landscape which has remained unchanged for thousands of years has suddenly been altered in a couple of weeks with pylons which in other parts of Scotland have been put underground. Why not here?
