Spines of Paper

Stay well clear, lest you become besieged by paper-cuts!   A paper-spined cactus.  Now, that's a cactus I could learn to love...and maybe even cuddle a little!  Actually, some of these still have tiny, stinging spines, but the paper ones are nothing but paper-like dragon's claws.  There are lots of these in the Valley, but they are native to southern South America.
