Western Pennsylvania Vacation .....

Day 5. 

Phew! What a busy, but very enjoyable day. The only disappointing thing about today was our "free" breakfast offered by the hotel that consisted of vouchers for McDonald’s! I guess more research is required when booking hotels that offers “breakfast included”!

Actually, our dinner was also a disappointment. But more on that later.
 
As I mentioned yesterday our plans were to revisit Presque Isle State Park. And we did ….. spending a good part of the day here.  The weather started out a little iffy but got better as the day progressed.  The park was so lovely and we did see a wide variety of wildlife just as they advertised!  My first extra is of an Eastern fox squirrel.  We don’t have this variety of squirrel in our area so I had to look it up.  I absolutely love the coloring with its lovely red tail.
 
As we made our way around the peninsula we stopped (a lot!) along the way.  There are many beaches offering swimming during the summer months. I guess you could swim now, but it would be quite cold. As you see from my extra #2 there are lots of seagulls hanging around. We made friends with this particular seagull (the one in my main blip photo) that R dubbed Harvey!  You can also have a picnic on the beach as evidenced by my extra #3! 
 
There are two lighthouses in the park and as we were driving out to see one of them we passed a group of houseboats moored in Horseshoe Pond.  Extra #4 is one of these houseboats that I really liked! So cleverly built with a lighthouse attached to one end! Not sure what it’s used for … possibly storage.
 
It soon was way passed time for us to leave and return to our vacation condo in DuBois, PA.  We were having such a wonderful time we didn’t want to go. 
 
Now, about that disappointing supper.  On our way back to DuBois we stopped at a Perkins for supper. The service was the absolute worst service EVER!  I won’t get into all the details but suffice to say we did not leave a tip!  Sorry to all the waitresses/waiters out there, but in my eyes a tip is a reward for good service.  We sat so long waiting for our bill that R finally went to talk to a manager.  She graciously gave us a discount and a free muffin!  Sometimes it pays to speak up.
 
We finally arrived back to our condo around 8:00 pm.
