Reflections
It's been an awesome day.
The cloud and rain from last night had cleared away and we had beautiful clear skies and light all day long. We started with an extended dawn visit to the ice beach and we were rewarded with lots of soft, peachy light.
Following a quick breakfast (and a few sneaky pics of the hotel surroundings, now that we could see them) we hit the road for the long haul back to Reykjavik. We stopped off several times along the way and the extra blips shows what caught our eyes on of those occasions.
We also stopped to visit the heritage farm and we caught the sunset back at Vik, before legging it to Selgafoss. We managed to time it so that we were literally the last visitors there... it's unheard of to get photos without the crowds, I believe.
But the icing on the cake was the light show we were treated to on the final stretch. We'd been anticipating/hoping for aurora, but the activity had dropped right down. However, an eagle eye member of the group spotted the tell-tale flare in the sky and our group leaders scambled to find us a good spot, without light pollution. We ended up behind a closed petrol station, but who cares? The spectacle was far stronger than the night before last - absolutely stunning. So yes, the same thing for two blips running, but how could I not? I doubt I will see the aurora again for a very long time.
It's been an awesome trip, dominated by stunning, surreal landscapes, ice, aurora hunting and good company. I can't wait to come back.
