Postcard from Akaroa

Back blip from Sunday

In the Morning we looked around the Akaroa Village and had some lunch before making our way back to Christchurch.

It was wonderful having a night away from the city and getting some sea air. The day was much warmer than yesterday.

Akaroa is about 75 kilometres from Christchurch and is a historic French and British settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano. Akaroa is Maori for Long Harbour. The village is snuggled into a wide bay on the eastern side of the rugged harbour with Onuku Marae a little further south.

There is plenty to do and see around the area. Akaroa waters are home to the rarest and smallest marine dolphin and all around you will find fantastic sea kayaking in spectacular surroundings. There are cruises, sail boats, cycle tours, mail runs, and an excellent range of walking tracks.
