Gone forever

A bright, sunny morning, so in order to try for one of the misty pictures that are all over Blip and the Guardian, we set off for Haweswater. No mist!!

But the light was lovely, the reflections magical. So - not a misty picture. 

This is the head of Mardale and you can see how low the water in the lake is because the field walls of the lost village of Mardale Greeen are visible. The village was flooded in 1935 to raise the water level of the existing lake to make Haweswater Reservoir that provides water for Manchester. The buildings were blown up or dismantled, but when the water is really low it is possible to see remains, such as tree stumps, gate posts and roads. The extra picture gives an idea of the village before it was drowned.
  
And when we got home, there was the mist!
